Bill Burr’s F is for Family arrives on Netflix this month, promising to take viewers back to simpler times.

The entire first season of Bill Burr’s animated comedy series, entitled F is for Family, will arrive exclusively on Netflix this month on December 18, it has been announced.

Described as a “family comedy”, the show follows the Murphy family and harkens back to the 1970s, a time when “you could smack your kid, smoke inside and a bring a gun to the airport.” The exact opposite for a family-oriented show, then – and I can’t wait.

From comic Bill Burr, and based on his stand-up, it will dive into a number of his favourite topics, including political correctness. The first season, which will consist of six episodes, is produced by Gaumont International Television and Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Television.

Presumably Bill Burr’s stand up shows, Bill Burr: You People Are All the Same (2012) and Bill Burr: I’m Sorry You Feel That Way (2014), both of which are on Netflix in the UK, have brought in the punters enough for the streaming giant to pick this one up.

Burr will voice Frank Murphy, opposite Laura Dern as his wife. Justin Long will play his eldest son, with Haley Reinhart as his youngest boy. We’re not entirely sure who’s playing his daughter at the moment.

It will be interesting to see if Netflix can repeat the success of black-comedy BoJack Horsemen with this one. The show sees Will Arnett voice BoJack, a washed up 90’s television star, who’s life consists of self-loathing, whiskey and failed relationships. Most recently, it was renewed for a third season, which will premiere in 2016.

F is for Family will premiere on December 18 exclusively on Netflix. In similar fashion to Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Daredevil – both available now on Netflix – all episodes will be released at once.
