Much-anticipated open-world sequel, Watch Dogs 2, scheduled to arrive on Xbox One, PS4 and PC next week.

Ubisoft has sent over the launch trailer for its much-anticipated open-world sequel, Watch Dogs 2, ahead of its release next week on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

The game, of which is set in the San Francisco Bay Area, sees players taking on the role of Marcus Holloway, a brilliant young hacker who’s been accused of crimes he didn’t commit by a corrupt system.

In Watch Dogs 2 the ultimate weapon is hacking. Players will team up with DedSec to take down the corrupted establishment, by hacking into the city’s operating system – dubbed ctOS 2.0 – and in turn, use it to their advantage.

Publishing powerhouse Ubisoft revealed – upon its announcement earlier this year – that Watch Dogs 2 had been in a period of “intensive development” for more than two years, with the original creative team behind the brand on board.

It promises to explore the “topics of data security and privacy”, along with hacking, of which are more current than ever today. It will beg the question: in a world dominated by technology, what happens when it falls into the wrong hands?

To some, the release of Watch Dogs in 2014 felt to some like little more than a tech demo, missing critical features that could have potentially made it a far better experience. And heck, who could forget the whole downgrade debacle? Yet, the game received a mostly positive reception across the board. To date, it has shipped more than 8 million units. No doubt Ubisoft will be hoping to repeat its success this time around.

In addition to its single-player campaign, Watch Dogs 2 will feature a “brand new seamless multiplayer experience” that Ubisoft has promised will “appeal to fans of the original”, as well as newcomers.

Those who pre-order Watch Dogs 2 ahead of its release will receive an additional mission, entitled Zodiac Killer, in which players will hunt down a serial killer that’s taunting police with coded messages. Decrypt them, track the killer and complete the mission to gain access to a bonus outfit.

Watch Dogs 2 is out November 15 – that’s next Tuesday – on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. We can’t wait to check out Ubisoft’s latest open-world offering, can you? Catch the trailer and let us know in the comments below.
