The Last Guardian’s latest trailer focuses in on the gameplay ahead of December release for PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Sony has released a new trailer focusing on the action of Team Ico’s forthcoming and much-awaited The Last Guardian, which is out exclusively on PlayStation 4 this December.

As you’d probably expect if you’ve been following the game for some time, it still looks incredibly stunning. And, from what we can tell of the gameplay and puzzle mechanics that we’ve seen, it looks like there’s some actual substance to The Last Guardian.

The game, of which has been in development by Team Ico since back in 2007, has been plagued with numerous delays since its initial reveal. Upon the departure of key developers from Team Ico, along with its director, Fumito Ueda, development was shifted to his studio genDESIGN. Sony’s Japan Studio is also chipping in with the process, handling, what is said to be, programming and technical aspects.

Its developer has promised an emotionally-charged story, as players take on the role of a young boy, who discovers a fantastical beast, named Trico, with whom he forms he a deep, unbreakable bond. It was previously revealed that the story itself would be told in the style of a flashback, as an elderly man retells his experience as a young boy.

Many has assumed – possibly based on Team Ico and Ueda’s previous offerings, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus – that The Last Guardian might have a sad ending, potentially resulting in the death of the young boy or Trico. However, Ueda’s since stated that the story is “open-ended, and for you guys to figure out.” Colour us intrigued.

The Last Guardian is scheduled for release on December 9 exclusively on PlayStation 4. It’s no doubt been a long-time coming for this one. Are you still as pumped as ever? Check out the trailer below and let us know in the comments.
