Square Enix have announced a remake of Final Fantasy VII during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, whilst confirming it will be coming to PlayStation 4 first.

Originally released in 1997 on the PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII introduced the now infamous rivalry between Cloud and Sephiroth. It was a critical and commercial success due to its “epic storyline, unique characters, and movie sequences that utilized the most cutting-edge technology of the time.”

Since then it has gone on to sell more than 11 million units around the world, establishing itself as one of the most beloved titles into the Final Fantasy franchise.

It has been revealed that “key members” from the original Final Fantasy VII development team will be returning, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

Square Enix has confirmed that additional updates on the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be “revealed at a later time.”

There’s no release window for Final Fantasy VII as of yet. It will be available first on PS4. Presumably, it will be arriving on Xbox One and PC at a later date.
