Preacher looks hellishly good in first full length trailer from AMC

AMC debuts first full length trailer of Preacher, based on Garth Ennis’ cult comic series, from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

I’ll be honest, I’m incredibly pumped for this one. If anything, that’s an understatement. I’ve long been a fan of Ennis, and Preacher remains my favourite of his entire work. More-so, it’s probably my favourite comic of all time.

Yes, that’s no word of a lie. It had such an impact on me, that its permanently on my body. I have tattoos of both Jesse and Cassidy, as part of my ever-growing sleeve. Some would call that commitment.

As a self-proclaimed diehard fan of the comic, I had my reservations about it being turned into a television series, and admittedly, I still do. However, they are becoming less prominent. Even if I am not entirely over the changes made to Tulip’s character, among other things. The show seems to, at the core, honour the comic.

The show is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios. It is being produced by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen through their Point Grey label, alongside Neal Moritz through his Original Film banner. The script was written by Sam Catlin, who will act as showrunner, whilst Goldberg will direct. Finally, Ennis and Dillon, the original duo behind the cult comic, are serving as co-executive producers for the series.

Originally published between 1995 and 2000 by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, Preacher follows Jesse Custer, a small town Texas preacher who’s struggling with his faith. Merging with a supernatural entity known as Genesis, that imbues him with the power of the word (the ability to make people do anything he says), Custer sets out on a mission to track down God and force him to answer for abandoning mankind. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend, Tulip, and blood-sucking, alcoholic Irish vampire, Cassidy, he sets out across America.

I wasn’t completely sold on Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, but the trailer – as seen below – has set aside any doubts I had about that. He stars alongside Joseph Gilgun, as Cassidy, who embodies the role amazingly well, and Ruth Negga, as Tulip. Supporting cast will include Ian Colletti and W. Earl Brown, as Arseface and his mean-hearted father Hugo Root, respectively.

Preacher is scheduled to premiere on AMC as part of its mid-season 2016 line-up. Though, no specific date has been given, as of yet. But we’ll keep you informed on that front. Be sure to stay tuned.

    Wow. Best line in the trailer was Gilgun’s “Jaysus, what kind of Preacher are you?”. That’s some spot-on casting right there!
