Pee-wee’s Big Holiday hails the return of Reubens’ fun-loving alter ego. Arrives exclusively on Netflix on March 18.

Netflix has debuted the first trailer for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, which is set to premiere exclusively on the streaming platform on March 18.

The film hails the return of Pee-wee Herman, as a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires him to take his first ever holiday. It is described as an “epic story of friendship and destiny.”

Directed by John Lee (Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer) and written by Paul Reubens and Paul Rust (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Arrested Development), Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be produced by Judd Apatow (Anchorman, Bridesmaids).

It will mark the first time Reubens has appeared as his fun-loving alter ego since his stage show, which was proceeded by a scandal in 90s, forcing him to shelve the character for quite some time.

Over the past several years during a number of interview appearances, Reubens had consistently mentioned that he had been working on two Pee-wee scripts, including one that he described as “dark Pee-wee” or “adult Pee-wee.” Netflix became involved in November 2014, according to reports, with the film beginning principal photography in March, 2015.

Since then, the casting has been officially revealed, with Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike XXL), Jessica Pohly (Stalker), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) all on board.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will arrive exclusively on Netflix on March 18. We’re excited – are you? Let us know in the comments below.
