Mafia III receives free outfits content update as developer Hangar 13 attempts to patch improvement issues plaguing open-world game.

Mafia III developer Hangar 13 has announced, whilst releasing a free content update, that a patch is available now to fix the overall quality and experience of the game.

The third instalment in the franchise has been criticised heavily since its release, due to its lacking and repetitive gameplay nature and open-world experience. Yet, it’s developer is keen – perhaps a little late – to put things right.

To help rectify the situation, they have released a fresh batch of outfits for Mafia III’s protagonist, Lincoln Clay to wear – of which its developer claims was a much-requested feature. There’s eleven of them in total.

The patch itself, of which is available as of now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, purportedly “includes a series of performance updates and hotfixes”, as detailed below:

  • UI Improvements
  • Improved car reflections
  • Improved streaming issues
  • Performance optimization
  • Fixed audio issues
  • Fixed some cases of save game corruption
  • Fixed various issues for Cassandra’s Contraband missions

Developer Hangar 13 has reassured players that further updates and improvements are on the way, with free content releases for races and vehicle customisation expected soon. In addition, three paid story expansions are in development.

Mafia III follows the story of Lincoln Clay, a disenfranchised Vietnam veteran, as he returns from war and looks for a sense of belonging. Orphaned as a child, he finds some semblance of family with the city’s black mob. But when his new family is betrayed and slaughtered by Sal Marcano and the city’s Italian mob, he becomes fixated on revenge.

Despite the controversy around the release of Mafia III, it was the biggest launch in the franchise’s history within the United Kingdom. It was previously announced by publisher 2K Games that it had shipped more than 4.5 million units – not sold, mind you – during its first week. A record for the publisher.

Mafia III is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Be sure to check out the content update in action below.
