An intimate, darker and more mature God of War

An intimate, darker and more mature God of War

The world of God of War has always been steeped in darkness. However, this latest chapter in the franchise appears to be taking the series into uncharted territory.

Uprooting Kratos from the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains, and caves of Viking lore, God of War introduces a distinctly new narrative for the beloved PlayStation exclusive. Expect a new realm that’s complete with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods.

Though the scale of the franchise remains, along with the breathtakingly stunning visual fidelity, God of War will be more intimate and personal than ever. As a father once again, Kratos is faced with an unexpected opportunity to master the rage that lies within him.

We’ll find the former Ghost of Sparta questioning the dark lineage that he’s passed on to his offspring as he hopes to make amends for the shortcomings and horrors of his own past.

We’ve already seen some teases of Kratos’s unique parenting style, which appears to be a bit of a tough love approach. But Kratos has matured quite a bit since his last outing. How will he fare as a father, considering his relationship with his own ended in murder? We can’t wait to see.

In a bit of a nod to God of War III, Kratos will decapitate a character off-screen and carry the severed head around. That’s some good wholesome family bonding right there. Heck, everyone handles parenting in their own unique way, right?

Don’t expect a morality system or branching storyline. God of War is a directed narrative experience, meaning that the team at Sony’s Santa Monica studio are calling all the shots – telling the story they want to tell.
