Death returns in Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition this month on Xbox One and PS4.

Publisher Nordic Games and developer Gunfire Games have announced that the Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders II will be available on October 27 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The game, which originally released three years ago, follows Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he embarks on a quest to redeem his brother’s name. Though it was well received by critics – including myself – it failed to meet expectations of its publisher, at the time of its release.

“It’s rare that as developers we get the opportunity to revisit one of our previous games. The passage of time and the numerous games we’ve worked on since Darksiders II shipped has allowed us to return to it with a fresh perspective” said John Pearl, Design Director at Gunfire Games.

Taking advantage of the next-generation of hardware offered by Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders II will run in native 1080p, powered by an “improved graphic render engine for higher visual quality.”

It will also include all previously released downloadable content, which has been “integrated into the game”, and provides more than 30 hours of total playtime. This includes the Maker Armor Set, The Abyssal Forge, The Demon Lord Belial, Death Rides, Angel of Death, Deadly Despair, Shadow of Death, Mortis Pack, Rusanov’s Axe, Van Der Schmash Hammer, Fletcher’s Crow Hammer, Mace Maximus, and Argul’s Tomb add-ons.

Having already played Darksiders II multiple times in the past, I’m not entirely sure how much replay value there is in this again – it’s a fresh lick of paint, after all. However, I’m more pleased about the future potential for the franchise as a whole, that it provides. Its developer has already stated that there will be a “large-scale project based on Darksiders” coming down the road, after the intellectual property was picked up by Nordic Games after the collapse of THQ.

The Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition is scheduled for release on October 27 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For those who didn’t experience the game when it originally released, we’ve posted up a trailer below. It’s worth a watch, and provides a peak at what you can expect in terms of story and gameplay.

Stay tuned to GizLine for future updates, trailers and screenshots pertaining to the release of the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition.
