Crytek partners with Sony to bring Robinson: The Journey exclusively to PlayStation VR.

Crytek has announced that it is collaborating with Sony to bring Robinson: The Journey exclusively to its PlayStation VR platform, to be powered by PlayStation 4.

The game, which promises to hold up Crytek’s legacy of delivering “the most realistic, believable worlds” possible, will offer an “unparalleled sense of presence”, as players become pioneers, interacting with the rich ecosystem around them and unearthing incredible secrets at every turn.

“PlayStation VR is the ideal platform for Robinson: The Journey. Our work with Sony so far has made it clear that they want to deliver the most immersive and unique home VR experiences imaginable to gamers, and we’re working hard to make sure Robinson fits that description perfectly” said David Bowman, Crytek’s Director of Production.

Taking control of a young boy who has crash-landed on a mysterious planet, Robinson: The Journey will offer the freedom to explore the environment in full 360 degrees of detail.

Sony has stated that it will deliver “breathtaking immersion,” who are quick to tout it as a selling point for their VR hardware. Who can blame them – it’s looking mighty good. Don’t believe us? Check out the trailer, of which can be found below.

I’m not entirely sold on VR at this point, still. However, titles like this are certainly a fantastic starting point, that’s for sure. This one still screams of James Cameron’s Avatar for me, personally. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though.

We’re told that the cooperation between Sony and Crytek underscores the “versatility of CryEngine” for other developers, of whom are looking to bring their ideas to life through virtual reality.

Robinson: The Journey is scheduled for release exclusively on PlayStation VR. As of yet, there’s no release date.
